Label Printers: item’s label producer behind the scenes

Despite the fact that man could survive and live a long life without machines or computers, he has an intrinsic urge to invent things that speed up processes and enhance accuracy. The computer technology is one of the greatest inventions of man that continue to evolve day by day while handing humanity efficient and secure methods of doing business.

POS systems employ computer resources to automate data entry, processing and inventory management in retail stores. One of the major components of a POS system is the Label printer. Although mostly it is utilised on a one-off basis, it plays an important role. It produces item labels for your store. Product labels carry details such as prices, brand name, type etc.

Without product bar-coded product labels human users of a POS would have to enter product details such as prices manually. This would take longer to complete a single transaction. On top of that, humans are prone to error and thus, the entire data entry process would be marred with mistakes that would undermine integrity of the POS. Label printers make work easier by printing digitally coded bars onto labels. The POS is connected to a barcode scanner that reads product labels into a computer.

Label printers exist in a wide array of types depending on scale of use. Industrial label printers have a higher capacity than those meant for retail use. The labels you see on huge shipping cartons are produced by industrial label printers.

POS Cash drawers are the ‘custodian of your store’s cash’. If you are using an automated Cash drawer (the type that connects POS and responds to electronic signals before opening up), your cash is safer. Cash drawers connect differently to the POS. Some types connect through a serial port while others support USB connectivity.
