Thermal paper rolls are the paper receipts given out to the customers at the end of a transaction. A thermal roll is a paper which is exposed to heat in a thermal paper to create an image of the billing details. It can be used for further transactions or return of exchange of goods and services.

It is a fine paper which changes colour when exposed to heat. Primarily used in thermal printers, now days it is used in credit card terminals, cash registers and additive machines. Previously, it would turn black on exposure to heat from the thermal head (the device which heats up the paper) but now red and blue colours are also developed. The paper is so sensitive to temperature that a swap of a pin on it will change the colour due to the friction produced between the pin and the paper. Proper care has to be taken for thermal rolls in the form of: exposure to UV light in proper frequency, fading due to excess heat, removal of residual matter from the thermal head and provide good quality of thermal head.
